Post by: spike123 on 20 Dec, 2021, 08:15
Hi guys
My a65 is pinking a little under load , I have 98 ocante at the moment, I was told to use this as its 9:1 compression, the ign Timing is correct so is the fuel correct

Hi,

Try retarding the ignition by 2ยบ.  This is recommended by SRM to take account of modern fuels.  I have not done this yet on my A65s as I have not had a problem with E5 or E10.  Super unleaded is mostly E5 but some apparently still have no ethanol in them.
The reaction to the various fuels seems to be down to the exact state of tune of the engine perhaps.

Dave.

+1 for what Dave recommends. I've also not had any pinking problems running E5 fuel. I've got a Boyer electronic ignition timed as suggested by them.
Are you sure it is pinking to start with?
If so, try retarding a tad first. You could try a bit of octane booster to see if that would help.
Also, how long has it been since the head was cleaned out? You may have some carbon hotspots inside.

Hi
The head all done with the rebuild so I'll just try and retard it a bit
