Title: Front mudguard bracket
Post by: Jhg1958 on 18 Dec, 2021, 15:12
Just starting to fit my tinware. :D on my 1961 A10 Golden Flash

I was not sure if the brackets go inside the mudguards or on the outside.  So I looked at Golden Flash pictures on the internet.  I could not find a single picture with brackets like mine. I fact I cannot find any other brackets like mine.

So I have taken a photo and I was wondering if I have forks from another model?

Can anyone identify the brackets or speculate why they should be different from other Golden Flashes?

I know it is a bit nerdy and doesn't really matter but it may give me a bit of history on this bike.

Looks like the brackets were a modification made by a previous owner to allow the fitting of forks from a different bike, the forks look like 1958/59 season if they take a full width iron hub.  The 1961 A10 original fork legs had 2 studs to take a Y shaped bracket  like the legs in the photo.

Yes you are correct the bike has a full width iron hub. (see photo).

I bet the bike was in front end prang and replaced with some second hand parts off an earlier model. If the mudguard was not damaged then this would explain the custom made brackets especially as when I got the bike the mudguards were chromed (well rusty chrome).

I have an 8" TLS backplate that should fit the full width hub and a wheel with a 9" TLS on it. I guess I will have a play with the set up when the bike is on the road.
