Help please , 1934 blue star 250 , about to start after rebuild , do I need to prime the
Pilgrim pump?
Any other advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks .
I don't think the 250 Blue Star has a Pilgrim pump. The Pilgrim pump is fitted to the outside of the timing cover, and fed by an external copper pipe from the combined petrol/oil tank. If this is the case, then it's a B2.
The Blue Star oil pump is fitted in the bottom of the crankcase, and I would think that if you pumped oil through it before fitting, then when you fill the crankcase with oil, the pump will be submerged in the oil. Assuming it has an oil pressure gauge, I would kick the engine over a few times with the spark plug removed - maybe squirt a bit of oil down the plug hole - refit the plug and start the engine.
That's what I did, and I had oil pressure straight away. You may want to make sure your oil adjuster is well screwed out for the initial start up. For normal running BSA recommended half to one turn open. Hope this helps.
