I managed to obtain the correct side stand for my 1965 A65 Lightning (no small achievement in itself) but then I bought the wrong pivot bolt (spares manual said 42-4793 was the part number- so that's what I bought from SJ engineering.... It was a bit short 1 13/32" but not SJ engineering's fault (mind I feel they could have been a bit more helpful))
So I still need a side stand pivot bolt, but I don't know the part number, which is where I'm hoping you good folk might be able to help me.... Pretty please?
The bolt I need should be (approximately) 7/16 shank diameter, 1 1/8" unthreaded and 5/8" threaded
(Total length of 1 3/4" from below the head)
Does anyone know either the correct part number form a 1965 A65 Lightning side stand pivot bolt (or a side stand pivot bolt that fits the dimensions (ish) that I mentioned please?
Regards,
Dave
According to the parts books the twins used 42 4793 from the A10 in 1958 right through until 1970.
BSA list it as 7/16 cycle x 1 5/16 inch long.
Looking at my A10, with the stand in place, the bolt is just long enough to take the slim lock nut.
I cannot see a different part listed until the OIF bikes.
Thank you very much for your speedy reply Julian. It kinda confirms the SJ engineering one that i have, although theirs is a tad longer than yours.
My A65 was in the BSA factory for 4 or 5 years before being tossed onto the street in October 1969,so goodness knows what happened to it while in the factory.
Anyway, I've written to SJ engineering for the measurements of one they are advertising for a Triumph but which looks like it could be the one I'm looking for to let me know the diameter and length ...
Maybe they'll answer.......
No answer..... again.
I'll go with a bolt I found in t'garage... It works...
Thank you S&J and the other few spares places that I approached for measurements.
Not to worry, I will still use them..... next time I have absolutely no other option.
