Title: 500cc Sloper headstock bearings.
Post by: Mike Farmer on 26 Oct, 2021, 20:02
 :) :) :) :)

Cant find relevant info about Sloper Headstock bearings. What size balls???. Are the parts available. Is there an alternative that fits M20/21/33 etc.

Mike
Sloper headstock bearing races are very different to M series.
Cornucopia stock them http://www.cornucopia-enterprises.de/spares-bsa_pre.html
I have fitted these but it took a while because I needed time to recover from the financial shock ;)

Hi,

Just out of curiosity, why are they so expensive?

Dave.

Probably cos the only known availability is "Cornucopia" in Austria. They appear to have the market so I guess they can price as they wish. Another expression for rip off.
However our problem is now nearer solution as son appears to have the cones etc. Just be handy to know ball size to replace as necessary.

According to my information, the cup and cone bearing has a 1.520" pitch circle and carries 18 1/4" dia balls in V-groove race O/D 1.933" - so a total of 36 balls for top and bottom.

The 1/4" balls should be easy enough to source. The problem is always finding the cups and cones.

Cheers
Gui

The upper ball race is not a srandard shape but includes a collar that fits into the upper yolk.
That will account for some of the cost and I quess they are not knocking them out by the thousand.
