Hi,
I have been having trouble with the 3 year old carb on my A10. I found the pilot jet blocked with corrosion, the float chamber with grey powder, the float valve with black corrosion and the needle as the attached image. I have cleaned and rebuilt the carb all okay now.
Running on Shell Vpower fuel.
Has anyone any thoughts on the how it got in that condition?
Thanks...
Hi Bess,
I always thought that V Power and the other super unleaded fuels ran cleaner than ordinary unleaded due to the additives put in and on the odd occasion that I have used it the bikes do seem to run bit smoother. I wonder if using it all the time may have a detrimental affect on carbs as these modern rules are designed for fuel injection. Was the carb left dry or with fuel in it?
Dave.

My answer is quite ridiculous but with your symptoms I would suspect moisture; however I cant quite understand or quantify that in any way.

Hi Mike /Dave,
Shell Vpower fuel is all I use and I leave it in all year around. From research, as Mike states, moisture seems the likely answer as its affecting the items in the air not the items in the fuel. How and why? I cant figure how unless the Ethanol content is the issue so maybe start the engine more frequently may stop the issue.
Thanks...
I have 2bikes anA7 and an A65 both have original monobloc carbs fitted and I have not had any of the problems that you mention. You say you have fitted a new carb 3 years ago maybe those new carb materials are not to the same specs as the originals even though they look the same, eg maybe the bodies have more zinc in them and the float valve and needle are made from different
material even though they look like originals.
