Title: A10 oil pump
Post by: fenderman! on 02 Oct, 2021, 21:37
If I replace my 1955 A10 oil pump with higher performance/increased flow $$$ SRM model instead of NOS would that cause any problems?

Hello fenderman,

There should be no problem with the SRM pump but I think that SRM strongly recommend fitting a new PRV at the same time.  If you can get a genuine NOS pump at a better price it is also worth considering again with new PRV.  Bear in mind that from new they last many thousands of miles without problems.

Dave.

Thanks Dave, I was told by the people at Baxter that the NOS pumps are junk so they only sell the SRM model. It does look like higher quality.I actually have already changed the PRV previously..

Hi,

I took NOS to be a genuine BSA pump but unused an still wrapped.  The pumps sold as 'Hepolite' get mixed reviews and I think would need cleaning and checking before use.  If buying a new pump I would go for the SRM one.  I believe that SRM assemble and test their pumps before sending out to customers.

Dave.

Check for an airlock in the feed line. Slacken the pump to crankcase fixings and allow the oil to flow. When it does retighten the fixings.

Air locks are common with the srm pump as I found out after an engine rebuild.
I ended up filling the supply rubber pipe with oil and then blowing it through with my air line to force it through. After a couple of refills and the use of compressed air all was well.
