Title: A10 rear chain lubrication
Post by: RESTORER on 28 Sep, 2021, 19:54
Hi all, Are the modern spray-on lubricants better for the older A10s with a new chain, or is it best to stick to the tried and tested graphite grease? This must have been discussed before but I can't find it anywhere. If its spray-on, which is the best? Thanks.

Modern bikes have chains that have sealed in grease.
Old bike chains need lubricant to penetrate the pins and rollers.
Some of the modern wax sprays probably don't penetrate the rollers.
I like using chain saw oil but I appreciate this sticky oil may make dirt stick more readily.

Hi,

A Scottoiler is probably the best way to lubricate a rear chain.  Not so easy on an A10 as it needs a vacuum to make it work.  A drilling in the inlet manifold would be needed or use a spacer between the carb and the head and put it there.  I have one on an A65 and I cannot remember how any thousands of miles I have done on the same chain.  If not a Scottoiler then Silkolene chain lube does a good job on my wife's A10.  Along with regular lubrication it is worth getting a good quality chain and keep it adjusted properly.

Dave.

Thanks for these lads, I'll read up on Silkolene. My chain is from Draganfly, I can't remember the make, maybe Regina.
