Title: Carb issues
Post by: spike123 on 10 Sep, 2021, 09:25
Hi guys
I've got a new set of carbs for my 1970 a65L and the manual states a throttle body 3 and needle position 1 , but Amal say it should be throttle body 2 1/2 and needle position 3
So which one is right

Hi,

The Amal specs. with the smaller cut away on the slide and the raised needle will make primary and midrange richer.  Perhaps Amal have come up with better settings for modern fuels.  It may be worth asking Amal why their specs. are different to BSA.
We could all learn something from this.

Dave.

Hi,
Did Amal verbally say that or did you check their website (their website agrees with BSA).

http://amalcarb.co.uk/carbspec/carburettor/spares/id/6406/

I have pack 117 (A65L - 1969 to 70) which is slide 3 and needle position 1. Although I am running the bike on needle position 2, pilot 1 1/4 turns out.

Slide 2 1/2 and needle position 3; sounds like Firebird specs.

Best wishes
