Title: B40 primary bolt lengths
Post by: chaz on 05 Sep, 2021, 14:49
as the question was asked on the twins, thought I would ask for the B40. Im sure Ive got it somewhere!!
reason being, the B40 drain screw is weeping, Ive tried , copper, fibre and joint compound but still weeping when stood.
my thoughts, currently is that the long screw Ive got in is bottoming out and so not tightening, but yet to check

Those leaks are a pain.
I've had several of those leaks with my A50 and B40 and also tried various ways to seal.
I think the cause is that the bottom of the cover is slightly rounded where the bottom of the hole is.
The last leak I sealed was by using 2 new fibre washers from a Bantam gasket set used for sealing the primary drive cover screws. A lot of new fibre washers are hard and I find don't seal very well. The ones I have for my Bantam are quite thick and 2 of these seal very well.

Ive swapped two screws about , and used a sealer, at the moment the drip is smaller, will check today to see if it is a drip or remains from change

slight weep this morning, oh well....
trouble is its from the bolt hole in the case , and as we all know when the screw is removed the chain case drains!!
looks like the screw is right so drain, dry and have another go.. hey ho
