My A65 is sitting on the bench slowly having all the bits nailed together. I have not yet fitted the inner timing cover because I wish to use the gear change quadrant as a pattern to measure for repairs to another one. the side is all open.
For some obscure reason I glanced down on the floor and there right by my toes is a 1/4" ball bearing. 'allo 'allo 'allo says I, I wonder where that came from. Maybe behind the oil pump--dear o dear o dear???-- yep thats about the size of it.
Now I put that back together with all the care you give to this particular operation, and I can't think where the----it came from.
If I was a gambling man I would say its about 99-1 against it being from the oil pump. But I aint a gambling man so in the next few days off comes the oil pump. Fortunately its an SRM pump held on with allen screws, not the original studs.
I'll let you know.

If you were a gambling man you'ld finish putting it together and see what happens.
that happened to me when i put my engine back together :-[ all i could hear from dad many years ago was take it apart put it in icecream tubs fit new parts throw the old parts out of the icecream tubs , then re-fit all the bits back to gether anything left take it apart again!!

Like I said---not a gambling man--so here goes.
I like the bit about the ice cream tubs--very sound advice

Did the biz today. Ball was in place so big sigh of relief. cos I dont usually make that sort of mistake(note: -usually).
With the SRM bolts it only took about 15mins. Part of that was finding some grease to put on the gasket.
