Hi all - my 64 A65 rocket has full width hubs, the rear being the cross over shaft type which is then attached to the most complicated series of rods and pivots connected to the actual brake rod. I am struggling to get this set up. I adjust the screw in adjuster on the brake rod so as to get a minimum of movement there but end up with about 4 inches of movement at the brake pedal. The brake works fine but to apply it my foot has to virtually vertical to the footrest - most uncomfortable! I have tried moving the arms on the splined shaft but no joy and lowered the footrest to take out some of the slack. Am I missing a simple set up solution?
Regards
John.
Hi John,
I know a few people have deviated from standard on this setup and used a single rod. I think stainless steel was used and perhaps a bit thicker than the standard ones as it would need a slight bend. The idea of the extra thickness was so that the bend would not try to straighten under braking and reduce the effort getting to the back wheel. There was something in The Star at the time.

make sure that the pivot plate on the inside of the frame has not worn its holes oval.
Also, check that the rod to the rear brake is not hitting the inside of the rear shock absorber then the brake is being applied.
Remove the foot brake lever, push the brake lever on the brake drum forward, and then re-slide the brake leaver back on, this can take up all the slack of movement.
Also, check the position of the linkage on the inside of the frame, as it needs to have enough angle to allow it to move
Cheers - thanks for the info I will have another go. I like the idea of just a rod, I will have a think about that.
John.
