Title: 1971 (J reg) B25S
Post by: Kenny on 27 Jul, 2021, 19:41
Hi fellow BSAers,
My wife has bought this bike, which is a bit of a pig to start. On closer inspection the points gap screw had stripped the threads, so the timing was quite happily adjusting itself as it saw fit!  :-\
I have purchased a Pazon Sure-fire ignition system to replace all the mechanical/electrical stuff and was wondering if any other members had done this but also any other tips for easier starting, Carb replacement etc?
Thanks for your answers.

Junk the points! Reliable timing is the answer and your Pazon should cure this. Best to set with a strobe and position it a little bit retarded from the pointer at full advance.

Also, don't be afraid to flood the carb with the tickler, even in summer.

Ditto that. My Wassell EI was a doddle to fit. Produces a better spark that points.

Carb re furb kit may be a benefit, their not too expensive or difficult to fit.
