hi
i know ive asked this question before but can find it in the search
i have a a65 head with 68-701 casting number can anyone tell me what year it maybe off

You're on a good one there. I took mine to several old bike workshops and they couldn't tell me

I think 60 701 is the casting number for the bare 1966 Lightning head, part number with fixed fittings such as guides 68 700 in the books.

Usual BSA practice - casting numbers one less than the number for the machined part or part with fixed fittings or both.

I think the finished machined item can be either for a L, S or F circ 1968 worth a look:

68-704 is a Thunderbolt head. The year I don't know.
