Title: 1955 Golden Flash
Post by: Goldstarman on 21 Jun, 2021, 03:15
Another question about the swinging arm Golden Flash regarding wheels. Which type of wheels and hubs were used front and rear. Thanks LloydL

1955 would have the half width hubs with spoke size and configuration to match. However if your bike left the factory late 1955 from August onwards it could have been fitted with alloy Ariel hubs which were full width but then you would also have different front fork  and rear end configuration. If ariel hubs the bottom of the front forks would have larger holes to take a 1" diameter spindle so if not then it will have the half width hubs. The reason for the possible difference in hubs is the BSA production year did not run from January to December but from  beginning of August  one year to end of July the following year.. To give you an example my BSA A65 left the factory in October 1962 but is a 1963 model with the changes that were made for 1963.

I may have a conundrum. The back hub is half width and the front hub is alloy full width.

I would say that the back wheel is correct and that someone has changed the fork sliders to later ones to take the Ariel hub. It is easier to do that then change the swinging arm.
