Newbie here after some advice!,i have a 1949 plunger a10(year to be confirmed) project that i am currently putting together,it is a proper basket case and needs many bits!,however my question is i want to build a mild custom a " sort of" bobber.I will be using all period correct bsa parts as in all the "major" ones, but some will be different as in the tank is bsa c12 and i will make cutdown mudguards myself, different bars and non standard exhaust, does anyone know or have experience,if this will be possible to get an age related plate,or is the inspection/process very strict?
Many thanks von.
The rules regarding classification as 'Historic' involves significant changes to major components on the vehicle from when it was new and is mainly regarding Chassis (Frame) Engine, suspension, wheels and brakes. Provided these are original or where available at the time the vehicle was new then there should be no problems.
So, if you are using an original frame, forks, engine and wheels then the rest is 'cosmetic'. The Tank will have been a BSA design from that era. The mudguards aren't a structural part sand the exhaust needs to meet reasonable noise emissions so if all complies, job should be a good 'un!
Thank you for the reply that is what I was hoping,I want to build a period correct bike anyway, with a few of my own ideas. As I said a sort of mild bobber,in my opinion it's there anyway a plunger a10 cool looking bike anyway.😀
my example, admittedly this was done before I got it in 2009. Aprilia RS125 front and back ends with cast wheels. never liked the front mudguard , if i had the inclination I would cut the lugs off of the forks and do away with the thing. Ive actually got anothe same front end spare in the loft of the garage.
hopefully I can get it insured thisi week, but busy getting the diesel out of a Triumph Trophy 900. has aV5 and has been on road since Ive had it , just not getting time to ride it..
That's a nice looking ride chaz not a million miles from my ideas, but I guess it already had a v5 when the front end was put on.
yes , had the V5. the Triumph T100 also bobbed has a V5 but the A50 is a recent import in from America and has been stripped waiting rebuild then registration.. that one like the youngest sons B40 flat tracker also in from america both have NOVA and will require Swanseas input.
out of the garage today and running, last couple of days sorting a customers Triumph Trophy 955 out as he had filled with diesel. The old girl is a lot easier to work on than the modern day, torture machines needing ladies fingers. Anyway a couple of better pcs.
