Hi,
Printable timing disc template, CD size. Might be handy for the toolbox, pm me your email if you want a copy.

Hi,
I managed to sort them into PDF's so they can be downloaded from the forum with the correct scale.
The CD centre hole is perfect for screwing on to the end of the crankshaft.

Hi,
Very useful. Thanks Bess.
Dave.
Indeed thanx

Hi agen and thanks.
Now I have my disc and freely admit that I have never seen one before. I figure that I am missing something here so your advice/assistance please
How do I line it up to start with. Looking at the disc I assume that I line it up on TDC then back it off the relevant amount of degrees to give me my BTDC position
How do I tell that the engine is exactly at TDC I cant find any marks to say so. Without a specific mark the line up is suspect by ????degrees.
Now if this is the reallity, am I any better off using the disc than when I measure the piston position in the bore?
Confused.bloke.

Hi Mike,
I made an engine stop as per image, added 3/4" to a spark plug.
• Fit your disc to the A65 crank, take out both spark plugs and put the bike in 4th gear.
• Turn the engine either by the back wheel or Kickstart so number 1 cylinder is roughly at the top on compression.
• Turn the disc so its TDC mark is vertical.
• Turn the engine backwards by the wheel so number 1 cylinder is starting its compression stroke.
• Fit the engine stop.
• Slowly turn the back wheel until you feel the piston gently touch the engine stop.
• Read the degree value on the disc.
• Turn the engine backwards by the wheel until the stop gently touches the piston again.
• Read the degree value on the disc again.
• The real TDC will be half way between the values.
• Take out the engine stop.
• Turn the engine half way between the values (TDC) in its normal direction of travel.
• Without moving the engine set the disc vertically to TDC.
• As my engine image on the previous post make a white mark somewhere appropriate (or make up a pointer) lining up with TDC on the disc.
• Then set your timing to the value you want, BSA say 34 degree I have pinking at that value so I'm retarding to 32 and trying again tonight. I will keep trying until I get what I feel to be good for the bike and fuel I'm using.
Hope this is helpful.

Brill. I'll give that a try next time I need to do a timing job.
