Title: choke dilema
Post by: tige on 28 May, 2021, 15:49
sorry guy's its  me again,  My A65 has a wassel carbon it when i bought it, but the previous owner gave me the amal carb , i found the float was sticking a bit, bad fit so i popped it in the lathe and rans some wet n dry around it,just enough to get it to slide smoothly, i sonic cleaned it all and fitted new seals and gaskets, it starts fine and ticks over lovely, but as i close the choke down it sputters and farts, so when i pull it back on it runs smooth and responsive, looking at it it seem backward as when the choke levr is off the chocke slide is down as though the choke is on, and as you pull the choke what normally would be on it lifts the flatish slide up out off the way, does this choke work in my mind in reverse, so when the lever is fully back the choke is on , and as you pull the choke lever round it puts the choke on. doing my head in trying to work it out.lol

Tight cable, choke slide up is, choke is off.

Slack cable, choke slide down, choke is on.

I had the same confusion Tige, used to cars with manual chokes, pulling the choke out put it on, it came as a revelation to find it was the opposite on the bike. It also caused a lot of starting drama, it was a thread on here that lightened my darkness.
