Title: c15 boss on clutch hub rubbing on clutch basket
Post by: beezabob on 20 May, 2021, 16:30
Hi , I picked up a '67 c15 recently  with a rattle coming from chaincase. On inspection the clutch centre nut was loose but when I try to tighten it pulls the boss on the hub against the basket and binds. Cant work out while that should be . It is as if the clutch basket is proud of the clutch centre tho looking at the rollers position it looks ok. I assume the clutch hub should draw up against the centre as you tighten leaving clearance to the basket. The only think that occurred to me was someone may have fitted a thrust washer behind the basket as i gather was done on later singles. Anyone else experienced this.?

ok.. to answer my own question.  The p/o had put in new cush rubbers but cut down some from on other machine to fit and left them too tall so the hub wasnt closing up properly. This was allowing the back of the hub to touch the basket as the nut was tightened causing the interference.  Managed to get in four new smarty type and four cut down further wedge type and tightened it up properly. Seems good now.
