Title: C15 Camshaft, washer and peg
Post by: hock79 on 15 May, 2021, 16:51
Hi, I am doing my first rebuild on a bike - a 1960 C15 - so I know nothing or very little about many parts or how they are supposed to be put back together! So please bear with me.

Currently putting the camshaft etc back in, and got to the point where the peg goes into the shaft and the washer goes over the peg - I think.

See attached image. Is this the correct way?

And whilst I'm at it, what function does the washer perform?

Thanks

Hi, pic shows peg and washer correctly fitted, then tab washer and nut.
Purpose of the thick washer/nut assembly is to prevent endfloat of the camshaft by making it captive on the inner timing cover.
If you have fitted a new outer cam bush you may need to reduce its outer end if it protrudes too far through the cover and causes the camshaft to lock solid when the end nut is done up.

Thanks for confirming I've actually done something correctly!

And for the advice, much appreciated
