Title: Distributor C15 restoration, transmission woes.
Post by: glenwalkingbiker on 01 Apr, 2021, 18:08
I have finally re-assembled the gearbox with new parts as I felt required but am at a total loss as to whether things are correct having now fitted the inner cover. It all seemed to go together well and I inserted the split pin into the gear change plate. However, changing gear seems a little difficult and when you turn the drive sprocket in the direction of travel, the kick start pawls clicks its way around the gear, is this correct? I am reluctant to clamp the new gear change arm on to the splined shaft for fear of not getting it off again, so that is not helping. There is also a hole through the inner casing (about 16mm dia) in line with the gear change screw which doesn't appear on any other photos I have seen on inner casings, what is this? Obviously oil will pass through this into the outer cover! I feel a bit stupid not to have noticed this before. Any ideas would help please.

Not long ago on this forum I was wondering why there was gear oil inside the rear part of my timing side  outer casing (1965 B40F), until someone kindly pointed out a hole through which the gearbox apparently is intended to share it's oil. Not sure about your C15.    Phil

Hi Glen,

A 16mm hole with no apparent purpose seems a bit strange.  If you post a photo of the case it will help to get a response.
