Title: Fitting chainwheel and engine sprocket
Post by: Phil C on 25 Mar, 2021, 12:05
These have to be fitted onto their shafts together, connected by the duplex chain. It's pretty difficult to do, because of the gearbox shaft key, which you can't see when trying to line up the keyway in the chainwheel. I've been trying without success for a while this morning and have now adjourned for a coffee whilst my knees recover. PIs there a knack?  Phil

Further to my post a few minutes ago, I see Rupert Ratio (p.119) advises having the key at 3 or 9 o' clock so that it's less likely to be dislodged by the clutch centre. I don't understand that, but obviously will give it a go. I guess persistence will do it in the end.  Phil
PS thinking of buying a payer mat, which might help a) to save my knees, and b) get a bit of help from above.

Hi,

Builders knee pads held on by straps.  They are then always where you kneed (pun) them ie on your knees.

Dave.

Thanks Dave. I'll get some.
Re the chainwheel, of course Rupert was right.
