Title: A10 headlight rim
Post by: Mitch77 on 23 Mar, 2021, 18:18
Hi all
Hope your all doing ok in this strange time
I have managed to get my mate ( 4x Ariel square fours ) to come on board with a 1962 Gold Flash
However he is having a problem with a 7inch headlamp rim he purchased from DF  ( Lucas red box !! ) I think that's his first mistake but that is my opinion only I have searched and found a couple of British made rims but before I make a purchase I would welcome any comments/ pointers as I have found your past advice/help has been invaluable in my own SR rebuild
The problem is quite simple the diameter is just too small to fit the nacelle rim also the sequence of reassembly would be a help as my own is a separate unit
Cheers
Mitch

Has the headlight nacelle got the inner mounting ring fitted?

I have found that new rims, where ever they are made often dont fit very well so have sought out new old stock genuine old Lucas rim which fits very well, and as an extra bonus are made from chromed brass rather than chromed steel.

I have about half a dozen rims some supposedly Lucas. None of which will fit a Lucas headlamp. Lucas the old British company doesn't exist as far as I am aware. The rims now are made or bashed out in some remote shed some where else in the world. Best bet is when the jumbles start take an old headlamp with you and try the rims. Not a lot of help in these challenging times.
