Decided to fit Podtronics solid state charging to the Lightning. To free up space and tidy up some suspect wiring, decided to do away with the 2 six volt coils and fit a dual output coil. It looks neat and tidy but the bike does not go, well it spat back, fired up and now no spark. It's Wassell ignition an Imego ignition coil, it's wired to the Wassell instructions. Anyone any experience of this?
Just an update on this, went back to the two coils and the bike goes. The guy who sold me the dual output coil reckoned I had wired it up wrong but I had two auto electricians check it over and they reckoned it was wired as it should be. Anyone any thoughts on why the Wassell system did not like the dual output coil?
Cheers
Most likely didn't like the resistance. This is now changed with two coils.
i think points coils and electronic ignition coils are different?
i had similar problem with A10 when trying to change from magneto to coil ignition, its currently a work in progress!!
cheers

Hi,
One of my A65s has the original type twin coils with Boyer EI and the other had twin coils and Boyer, then twin lead coil and Boyer but now has twin lead coil with Pazon. All work fine.
On my wife's A10 I fitted a Kirby-Robottom Mag replacement kit with Boyer EI and a twin lead coil as it was easier to fit/hide and it works really well.
Dave.
As a rough figure. An electronic coil is .5 ohm a points coil is 3 ohm
What's the Ohm rating of your dual coil?
Does it connect with two or three leads?
Hi,
On my A65 with a twin lead coil the coil is about 4.5 Ohms and it has two connections. I also have spare which is an Emgo which I assume is the same resistance and has two connections.
Dave.
The Emgo coil is 3 ohm primary 12 ohm secondary, this info is not on the box, I found it searching the web, there are only 2 wires positive and negative. What I also found out was that the dual output coil has to be earthed, now when I mounted it I did not bother about it earthing as the old coils do not need to be earthed. This could explain a lot.
