Hi All,
I recently purchased a set of Mikuni carbs on ebay and was excited because the have the cast inlets. However after disassembling and doing an ultrasonic clean, measurements come in at 26mm. I have a copy of the Victory manual for tuning Mikunis on Brit twins, but the 26mm is not an option for 650 twins it seems, though the seller swears these carbs came off a 68 Firebird.
So... my questions are: 1. has anyone any thoughts on running VM26 carbs on an A65 and 2. what are jetting recommendations if so? I can't really make out the markings on the needle jet (seems to have a 174 marked on there) and I completely hamburgered the pilots backing them out with a screw extractor as someone before my time had ruined the slots and I felt lucky to get them out.)
Any and all thoughts are welcome.
Thanks!
Liam
Hi Liam,
I would have thought 26mm a bit small as I believe that 30mm is correct for the twin carb models but who knows with a Mikuni.
If nobody comes up with anything on the Forum try asking Allens Performance. https://www.allensperformance.co.uk/
Dave.
Thanks, Dave. That's what i thought, but the seeler from whom I acquired says they came off a running A65, so I don't know. I will try Allens! Also considering putting a spare set of rebuilt Amal 930 on. Any recommendation for main jets for Amals on a 1968 lightning?
Thanks!
Hi,
It is always best to use the settings in the BSA manual. Unless the engine has been altered they usually work best.
Dave.
The Firebird scrambler being an off-road model, albeit seldom used in this capacity I think, could have benfitted slightly from the smaller carbs if run off-road. No doubt it could have run with a pair of 26 mm with some improvements in tractability.
