Title: powder coat oven
Post by: Taffyboy on 11 Mar, 2021, 19:48
Looking forward to getting frame, etc media blasted and powder coated in the near future. Question is, would the ( in good nick) silentbloc bushes in the s/arm survive the heat process?

Powder coating is typically 200C for 15 minutes. This would be outside the design temperatures of the bushes by quite a lot; this might affect the hardness of the rubber, and also its bond with the metal bushes.

I've decided to wet paint the swinging arm on my A50 for that reason.
The bushes are good, they're a pain to remove and replace and I'm pretty sure the powder coat oven would damage them.
Mine will get sprayed with Hammerite smooth.

Cheers,
Bernie

SO, would just having everything media blasted, but getting my local sprayer to apply  a two pack,  if only for the sake of continuity ie only one finish. Is  powder coating the most durable finish?

Mine haven't been damaged in the oven. But someone will come along soon with more knowledge than me. I don't think it's a problem. Wet painting is probably twice the cost of powder coating.
