Title: A crack in the cover
Post by: Rog1 on 04 Mar, 2021, 12:52
I have a crack in the timing cover of my M33. It seems that the screw that retains the oil valve ball and spring has been over tightened, and the boss around it has cracked. When the engine is running, a little oil weeps out.

I've considered using JB Weld to make a repair, but I'm not convinced it will hold under the oil pressure. Perhaps getting it welded would be better, but I'm concerned that the case may then become warped. What should I do?

If you want to retain it then get it TIG welded and skim the mating face to get rid of any distortion (or file it flat with the aid of a surface plate, pane of glass or whatever you have to hand to use as a flat surface to check against).

Otherwise you could replace it? They aren't uncommon.

 :) :) :)

I have just had a crack in my Sloper casing Laser welded. Super job, no distortion. NOT cheap. £200---for that it was welded from both sides and the outside was then cleaned and finished to match original surrounding surface.
