Title: A 65 tyres
Post by: Toolbox on 27 Feb, 2021, 10:01
Now the proud owner of a 1968 A65.
The bike's been stored a long while and needs new tyres.
What's the recommended option with what's available today please, any advice?
All comments gratefully received!

Hi Dave,

My choice over many thousands of miles is Avon Road Riders.  There are other preferences out there but I have found the Avon tyres good for grip, handling and mileage on both a '51 Flash and '68 Thunderbolt with over 200,000 miles between them.

Thanks Dave - that's really helpful!

Are they good for both front and back?

Cheers,

Dave.

Hi,

Yes front and back.  They are directional like a modern tyre and are usually available in both inch and metric cross section.
We have been running 90/90 x 19 front and 100/90x18 rear on the A10 and A65.
A 4.00x18 is available if you want a bigger rear tyre.
There have been a few threads on this topic so if you want to read more do a search of the Forum.

Thanks again Dave

Will take your advice and get on it. I don't plan track days or going for a timed run on my favorite roads - so don't need the ultimate option! Bumbling along is just fine. Appreciate the advice.
