Title: B33 sump leak
Post by: Barriball on 25 Feb, 2021, 21:59
Hi all.

I am changing the oil and have done the gearbox and chain case but have a problem with the sump plate. I have not completed it yet so have not filled which is good as there are drips coming from the sump bolts even at this empty stage. When I put the plate back on was not really happy with as I could not see how it would seal because of the gauze filter. If there where two flat surfaces coming together, that seems fine but with the gauze between can't see how it would seal. I did use a new gasket but no jointing compound which I have now bought. Cant remember its name but is Blue and I did research before purchasing it.

Help on this on please.

Barry.

with a gasket on each side of the gauze filter the "holes" on the gauze do not connect with each other, like a honeycomb, so no sideways movement of oil and no leaks.

The studs do sometimes (always?) penetrate into the crankcase interior and oil can wick out. I try to seal these and with some sealant but when oil is already there it is not easy.

good luck
