Title: Fitting rear mudgaurd to 1958 A10
Post by: JohnWB on 22 Feb, 2021, 19:00
Does anyone have any pictures showing how a 1958 A10 GF rear mudguard is fastened to the frame.

I stripped down the machine a while ago and, like an idiot, forgot to tke any photos.

Hi John
There are two saddle clamp arrangements one top and one bottom. Each saddle fits over the frame tube and has a rubber spacer between the saddle and the mudguard (there are thick and thin available but I am not sure which one is correct, but I've got thick ones). The saddle then has a stiffener plate on the inside of the mudguard. Two bolts pass through the holes and there are star or spring washers and nuts on the inside of the mudguard to secure. Sometimes people use nylon nuts. There are slotted holes in the guard to line up.
The triangular brackets fit to the top shock mounts with spring washer and nut and there is a bolt that secures the bracket to the frame. The mudguard stays fit on the inside of the triangular brackets.
Priory magnetos have a diagram and so do Draganfly.
I believe that is the correct way to fit the mudguard but someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a 1961 GF with duel seat.  If the 1958 is the same and you are using the original mudguards these photos may help. I am still in the dry build stage before painting. A stage I seem to be stuck at for several months.

Top view shows the seat bracket.  I think I am using an earlier seat and bracket.  Later one use a bracket that come down to the side of the mudguard rather than just sitting on top. You can see the spare holes in the side the mudguard on the second photo.

The rear stay attaches to the frame with the rear shock top bolt  and one other just below and in front of the top the rear suspension. The bolt at the back threads into a hole in the stay. 5/16" cycle thread bolt.

You can see the shock top bolt with the spacers in the third photo.  On mine the outer spacer looks original but the inner one is aluminium and I suspect a custom job.  Seems to work ok. The bolt behind on the photo is for the tool box where I am still trying to put the wiring and oil filter and will need shortening.

The last photo shows the bracket at front bottom of the mudguard.  It is a really crude flat U bracket over a frame section held on by two bolts that go through the mudguard. There is a fat rubber piece between the bracket and the mudguard and a small piece of steel with 2 holes in it to spread the load inside of the mudguard.

I hope this helps.  Let me know if you want the full size photos and I will e-mail the files to you.

If anyone else notices I have got something wrong, let me know.  This is a good time to correct any of my cock ups.

John

The later type are slightly different stays and seat has angled brackets to the guard so best to check before you fit it all up. Mine is a 1958 and mudguards are fitted as described above but then again I'm no expert.
