Title: B/M rear hub
Post by: Greenfield on 01 Feb, 2021, 11:13
The rear hub on a B33 plunger has a spacer possibly part number 67-6032 with a ridge on one side. It fits into the drum before the backplate is fitted. The question is does the ridge face outwards or inwards?

I don't think there is a separate spacer between the backplate and the drum bearing. My plunger B31 (which has exactly the same set up as the B33) has a plain steel bush/spacer pressed into the backplate. This projects a few mil into the drum and seats against the inner race of the drum bearing. According to my parts lists spacer 67-6032 is only applicable to B32/B34 competition rigid frame and B31/B33 S/arm frame models.

Thanks Martin. My 1950 plunger B33 with splined hub definitely looks like the diagram on the Drags site. The spacer is a separate item with nothing on the backplate; just thin pressed steel. Its shown as 67-6032/67-6072 but the latter is a thin cover rather than a thick spacer. With so many things 'wrong' on my bike it'd be good to get things going as well as possible. I'm guessing the ridge faces outwards against the backplate unless I hear to the contrary.
I also need to know the correct way round for the rear brake lever and steady plate which are both cranked. I'll take some photos tomorrow.
Cheers

The plunger QD rear hub does have a spacer as described. The spacer is different to the one fitted in the QD hub on the rigid and swinging arm these hubs use the same spacer.

As promised these are the photos of the spacer, 67-6032?, the backplate and the drum. Marks on the inner surface of the drum indicate that the spacer could have been fitted both ways in the past. Confirmation would be good.

The first photo shows how I found the brake steady plate and lever. Can someone confirm whether they were assembled correctly or whether it simply depends which works best?
Cheers

The wrong brake actuating arm (amongst many other things) was fitted to my B31 plunger when I acquired it so I purchased the correct 65-6279 item. The only way I could get a reasonably straight brake rod run inside the suspension was to crank the actuating arm inboard (see pics). I have not seen other bikes but assume this is correct because nothing else works. The crank offset is fairly critical because there is not much room between the brake plate and the suspension. In the photo yours appears to be the correct item.

Cheers Martin
The photos were very helpful. Should now be able to get the back wheel on over the next couple of days.
