Hi Fellow BSAOC members,
I wonder if anybody can help me identify the BSA in the attached photo?
The photo was taken of my late father in ~1963/1964 outside his house in York and I'd like to identify the model and year (I'm assuming the bike itself is long gone, but you never know) & (I had to crop his head off to get the file size down - sorry Dad).
Looking at the circular tank badge and the light colour, my best guess is its a 1959 A7 Shooting Star, but I am no expert so if anybody can help me identify it, then It would be much appreciated.
And if anybody knows the whereabouts of 526CK then I would love to hear about it.
Thanks, Martyn
Hi Martyn,
I would say that it could be an A7 Shooting Star but I do not know what year but almost certainly a few years old at the time. Seat cover and 'Ace' bars are non standard.
Dave.
Looks like 1958/59 Shooting Star but I think there is a letter missing from the end of the number plate.
In my Glass's index 1929-1965 there are no reverse series - numbers first - with just 2 letters CK.
There are a number of possibles for the missing letter so have attached the page from Glass's index so you can see them
It also seems to be a strangely mounted number plate as it partially obscures the headlamp! Is this an early example of photo-shopping?
Thanks Pete A10 - It is a strange position and you're right it does appear to be in front of the headlight. I don't think its photo-shopping, as I have the original photo from my Mum and I have just scanned it. So I'm not sure of the reason.
Thanks Julian. I've run all the variations through the Licence Checker and nothing turns up.
I'm thinking 1959 because the '58 model had silver hubs and the '59 had black hubs and the '50 had the round tank badge whereas the '60 model had teardrop tank badges.
I'm on the look out for a 1959 A7SS now, so maybe my search will throw up a few more pieces of info.
Thanks for your help guys.
