Title: Clutch rack (1965 B40F)
Post by: Phil C on 29 Jan, 2021, 12:28
Good morning all,
The little clutch rack, that is housed in the timing side outer cover, has a ball bearing in it. Two questions:
1. What is its purpose?
2. I think I read somewhere that it should be loose, not jammed in its housing? Mine doesn't fall out when I turn it upside down and knock it. Any info/advice please ?
Thanks very much.  Phil

Hi Phil,
I assume that the ball bearing is there to reduce the wear on the clutch rod, being that it can move around a bit.
The ball in mine isn't loose but neither is it jammed in, if you see what I mean?

Thanks Pete. Having read your reply, I thought I'd just go out and have another look at mine, and whilst there I thought I'd see if a magnet would tempt it out, which it did. So all is well.

And the sun is shining (bit of a rarity.)
