Title: C15 Oil lubrication
Post by: glenwalkingbiker on 17 Jan, 2021, 17:22
Please can someone help. On the inside of the timing side crankcase, about an inch below the main side bearing (inside the flywheel chamber) there is a tapped hole that is approx 1/8 bsp (or similar tpi and size) It is clearly connected to the oil gallery, I think feed side. When I stripped the engine/transmission down there was nothing fitted in the tapped hole. Now the crankcases have been vapour blasted I am looking at all the oilways prior to re-assembly, this tapped hole in what is an oilway is a head scratcher! I feel as though (because it is tapped) it should be plugged or have something fitted, otherwise oil will be thrown on to gearbox side flywheel. Rupert Ratio doesn't appear to mention it, although he talks of a non return valve to stop wet sumping (which I assume is the ball in the pump scavenge tube) Service sheet 603 identifies an "A" (a valve) but I cannot find any reference to it anywhere, but is shown to be in the place I am talking about... help!

By your description this is the non return valve location consisting of a ball bearing (1/4 inch)  and spring held in position by  slotted grub screw, Refer to Rupert Ratio manual  chapter 5 page 31

Thank you, I had the feeling it was the anti syphon valve, but I couldn't seem to find the parts listed among the various suppliers and it wasn't totally clear on the various lubrication sketches. Vitally important as it appears to stop the oil tank emptying into the engine when standing, a point obvious ignored by its previous owner as nothing was fitted. Tis now!
