Title: bottom yoke damage A50
Post by: chaz on 12 Jan, 2021, 17:21
got my bottom yoke back from the coaters, they have managed to bend it up and close the gap so one of the stanchions wont go in.
Ive asked if anyone has a replacement  and spoke with the coaters today who assured me they didnt drop it!!
before buying a replacement, can I bend the eye back to line up the bolt holeand faces then pull back to open the slot up.
cold or with heat,? Ive got access to a 2 ton press, oxy acetylene and a vice.
best way, without breaking?

Hi Chaz,
The maintenance manual suggests cold, I would put some heat to it to temper and ease the movement.

Best wishes...

thanks Bess
just worried about the manual being printed within 5 years of casting and todays being 40 years old.
I think gas from the hand held Gaz not oxy/acet which would be hotter

managed to put it in the vice between soft jaws and gave a few tugs. faces now parallel and bolt goes through. opened split up with a screwdriver and got tube in.
fitted the top clamp and other tubein solid then managed to move a bit to get the other tube in then clamped that.
have left bolted up in the vice for now so it should settle.
moved cold , no heat used.went fairly easy.
