Hi everyone,
I'm currently restoring a 1946 B31 on which I need to replace the head stock bearings.
On those early years the B31 head stock bearings had cups and cones with 3/16" ball bearings, like the C range, but later were changed to ones using 1/4" balls, which I think became common to the whole range of B, M, and A.
These early bearings, the cups and cones, are not available anywhere. So my question is if the later type will fit if replaced as a set?
Thanks
Gui
Regret they do not interchange, the cups of the later items have a larger outside diameter.
Bantam cups are the same part 65 4465.
Bantam top cone is the same part 65 5319.
Bantam bottom cone different.

That's unfortunate.... I do have both cups and the bottom cone, which with some work I can still recover. But I'm missing the top cup, which I haven't been able to find anywhere...
Bloody hell I went through this lot 12 months ago, I couln't get the outer cups out, eventually welded a bar onto the lip and knocked it out, I gor new ones from Draganfly, but be very aware of what you order it seems 46,47,48 are dodgy years with stuff all over the place.
I'm missing the top cone and dust cover which Drags doesn't have anymore or indeed nobody else for that matter. You probably got the last one Sidewaysid ;) the cups and bottom cone I can probably save on a pinch, but I'll keep searching.
The hole in the middle of the original cups was threaded to enable a special tool to be inserted to remove them. I was able to borrow the tool from a BSA club branch. I think that the new one I fitted some years ago did not have the thread. Keith
