Hi. Is anyone able to overhaul my 1946 B31 gearbox or able to recommend a specialist who can. Thanks - Keith
Would that be the lightweight box? I rebuilt mine a year or so back bit of a pain, funny no replies to you.
I think the problem for anyone taking on the job, would be the availability of parts.
I rebuild mine from two donors, one supposedly good and one "rebuilt," and I had trouble finding any decent parts - had to import from Australia to Germany!
Otherwise they are fairly simple devices...apart from the kickstart spring!!!
Thanks for your replies. I have spoken to 3 people who advertise restoration services in the Star or the VMCC magazine. None had any particular experience of gearboxes or mine in particular. Two of them quoted an hourly rate of £40 and an unspecified number of hours. I was left feeling that they were probably not much more able than me to sort it as I have all the manuals and a good knowledge of spares sources. I have a working BSA exactly the same as this one I have almost finished restoring and I would gladly pay an expert to sort the box for me but having failed to identify an expert, I will persevere with the job myself.
Thanks again for your support.
Keith
