Title: BSA C15 crankshaft and gearbox main shaft bearing
Post by: jmac on 08 Jan, 2021, 14:41

Happy new year

I have confused myself through looking at to many articles on the internet.

Looking to insert good quality bearings on crankshaft and gearbox, ( 6305 and 6206)

Main question being: Should these be C3 type bearings?

Should I stick with open items opposed to shielded ( thinking that gearbox drive side could be protected  via leaving a shield in place?)

Thanks in anticipation

Regards

Jim

I purchased bearings from Henderson. I opted for the Crankshaft bearing being non shielded to maximise oil lubrication as the oil seal stops migration into the primary. The gearbox one I opted for one shield adjacent to the oil seal just to add a little extra help.

Hi,
If the bearing has C3 at the end of its description yes, eg 6206 or 6206C3.

C3 usually for electrical motors.

Best wishes...
