In process of refurbishing a C15
My question relates to purchase of parts in the UK and who is recommended based upon service, quality and price?
I ask as there appears a large differential in prices for the same component, everyone appears to promote that they are BSA specialists selling quality parts
The only reasons I can conclude
• Superior quality/tolerances
• Small batch runs equate to higher prices
• Simple profiteering
As an example
Part number 40-0030 Camshaft inner bush
Supplier 1 (Norfolk) £21.05
Supplier 2(Hampshire)) £6.10
Part number 40-0026 Lay shaft bush
Supplier 1 (Norfolk) £28.74
Supplier 2(Hampshire)) £13.00
Advice /recommendations would be welcomed
Hi,
If you want to put a supplier on the spot ask them what material is used to make the part and who makes them. Most will say they do not know.
I think that Draganfly would be happy to tell you about materials and where they are made and why their part costs so much more. After all they want you to have confidence in them as a supplier don't they?
Dave.
The examples you state are unusually dfferent in my opinion. I find the majority of time that are all pretty competitive.
I base my judgement on a consensus of prices and eventually the service you receive. Sometimes the part is available from only one supplier and you have no choice. Thankfully I haven't bought any rubbish yet.
Good luck
Dave /Blackthou
thanks for your input,
Thanks to the advice of others and yourselves, it is evident that the price differential is the result of the materials used in manufacture,
The safe option is to go down the quality route.... ( despite the price )

I am building a C15 engine for trials and I have been using Draganfly for years for BSA, I wanted the timing side crank bush they quoted me £90+ I said blimey when I purchased them last they were £46 they apologized for the high cost, I sat back and had a think, I found a guy on ebay making them in solid bronze for £40, I contacted him and he makes them to order, I told him I wanted 1.310 inches I/D, I paid and it arrived it had 33mm written on in marker pen, and it was 33mm, I couldn't be bothered to send the bugger back, so my local engineer opened it out to my size and charged me £25 and all my running around cost too. I also rang a well known Company who have been doing Triumph BSA for donkey's years, I actually asked if their prices were genuine "oh yes" he said " the website prices are correct" so I made a shopping list, mainly bronze bushes for the gearbox, camshaft inner and outer, gearbox inner and outer, I drove to the shop and gave him my list with all there part numbers on, his first words were "you'll be lucky" he went to the back and came back with one bush for the camshaft inner @ 21.00 same as Draganfly's price, I left very disappointed, the following day I tried the bush, guess what ah ah ah nothing like at all, it's still there wrapped in a lovely expanding plastic sheath, probably of a Bonneville. I found getting engine parts for the C15 harder than my 1947 B31.
