Title: b31 alternator wiring
Post by: EDDIE SIMPSON on 17 Dec, 2020, 23:08
hello b31 electrical wizards.
i have a prs8 ignition switch with an original wiring loom.
i also have a 12volt battery with modern rectifier.
the original system has a wire from the alternator to ign switch giving a/c for emergency start. i assume i can keep this set up?
however there is another 3 d/c wires from the rectifier to the ignition switch which i guess need altering for a modern rectifier solid state?
any suggestions?

Do you have a 12 volt regulator to go with the rectifier or is it a combined regulator and rectifier unit?

Either the regulator or combined unit should have some wiring instructions to go with it.

Usually the 12 volt conversions would simplify the wiring and remove all the 6 volt coil switching/charging and emergency starting wiring to the PRS8.

thanks for reply julian. i have done some more reading and a separate modern lighting and ignition switch seems the way to go
