Another problem has arisen when assembling my c11 engine, fitted barrel ok, fitted cylinder head ok but when I fit push rods into cam followers and then fit rocker shaft, even with tappet adjusters unscrewed as far as possible I can not get any clearance on the inlet valve. It's as if the inlet valve push rod is to long, but it measures the same as the exhaust valve rod. Any ideas what I've done wrong would be much appreciated.
Don't forget the push rods on your engine crossover. They are not parallel as other engines.
Thanks for Info. I have them as stated but still not right.
Not sure about the details of that engine. Was it an engine that you took apart? As you may not have the correct push rods.
Are the rods supposed to be the same length? On the b25 they are different.
Try them the other way round just to see if it makes a difference.
It could be that one is not seating in the follower correctly.
Just had a read of Arthur Luptons book of the 250cc BSA.
Page 76 says;
'it is important to fit the cylinder base washer the correct way round, this also applies to the cylinder head gasket. If these are incorrectly fitted the push rods cannot be replaced and the engine will have to be dismantled again'.
The gaskets look OK and it seems that both push rods are the same length. Anyone know roughly how much play there should be with tappet adjusters fully wound up.
