B33. After refilling the chain case on my B33, I have a leak that seems to be following one of the screw/bolt then out the back of the case where it drips. This screw seems to be the only one that protrudes about 3mm. Should it be like this, and my thoughts are to wrap some PTFE tape on the thread then screw it in. The screw/bolt is the second of the smaller heads after the 3 front larger one.
Or/as well get it nice and clean then when in places add a small amount of clear sealant the type you would use when sealing a shower.
Now I have it registered fitted the new historical looking number plate, but while there thought I would start it, yes first kick, so pleasing.
Any thoughts BSA people?
Barry.
Congratulations on the 1st time kick. Very satisfying isn't it? Need some good weather to reap the rewards of your work now!
I've used ptfe tape with success for that kind of thing. Likewise silicone and gasket goo etc. My preference is wellseal.
Only thing to remember is to clean out the holes whenever you ever take the bolts out. So you don't trap anything at the bottom and damage the cases when tighten it all back up again.
Hi
Thanks.
Do you know if the drain screw is suppose to pultrude out behind the inner case about 5mm. Mine does and after the oil change leaked through the threads of this screw. I have removed, cleaned, and ptfe the hole thread and extra that will bunch up behind the head.
Also put more around the pultruding part, then washer and nut. What do you think?

common problem on leaking bsa chain cases. best solution is weld of course but in situ i cut the head of a long whit screw. clean out thread, seal one end of the stud in the inner chaincase with araldite or whatever and tap a a10 rockerbox nut for the outside 1/4 whit. add fibre washer and spacer to suit case recess. with a lathe make nut to suit.
