Good evening all!
Thought id introduce myself, My names Luke and together with my father we own a number of BSA's. We have been a member of the BSOC East London Branch for many years!
I have been collecting the parts for the build for a number of years but I finally decided to start the build whilst in lockdown and at the moment its full systems go!
The build is based on a 1960 BSA A10SR and will be built into a period cafe racer. Its not going to be a RGS replica, I have nothing against them but want the build to be in the ethos of building a cafe racer in the 60's with upgrades to improve the riding experience!
The spec -
1960 BSA A10 SR Frame - converted to run rear sets, clubman brake lever, solid type swinging arm bolt and de bracketed if not needed
1960 BSA SR cases, Large Journal crank ( Balanced), Thick lip barrels, needle roller conversion, RGS head with 9:1 pistons. I am nearly finished sorting all the parts out for this and will be built by Malcs Motorbikes in Waltham Cross.
STD Gearbox ( For know)
Taylor Dow Supperlegra top yoke, dampers and progressive springs and the longer length fork bushes
Suzuki GT750- 4LS front brake with fast road shoes with Flanged rim
Conical Rear hub with Flanged rim
Lyta Tank and Single seat
Alloy Mudguards
Swept Back pipes
Anyway here goes -
First Job - THE FRAME
The frame was a standard A10 SR example from 1959, I have removed the sidecar mount, steering lock assembly and a good friend of ours welded on rear set lugs, new brake lever mount, battery tray mounts and welded the swingarm bolt holes smaller to accept the smaller bolt!
I have then cleaned it up and given it two coats of red oxide and two coats of filler primer!
Its new ready for the gloss black top coat :)
Whilst I am waiting for some of the parts from the shot blasters I have cleaned and polished the Taylor Dow top yoke, I have new stanchions, longer fork bushes and new SRM progressive springs to fit up!
I will be making a fork brace/mudguard bracket to hopefully stiffen up the front end as I am concerned the GT750 front hub will over - brake the front end, until its all together I wont now so its very much trial and error!
Top service from Villiers Services, a couple of weeks turnaround and they have sent back the front shoes for the hub!
Hi Luke
Welcome, I'm looking forward to seeing your re-build mate.
Welcome to the forum Luke.. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress of this build too!! :)
Excellent stuff, you have gathered all the right bits anyway, 4LS front end will be nice!

That's going to be something very special Luke. I'll be interested to follow this one.
I'm building an A65 Lightning but much prefer the look of the pre- unit construction bikes.... (they have more character to my eyes...)
