Title: Oil tank removal
Post by: AdrianS on 28 Nov, 2020, 17:00
I'm trying to get the oil tank out from my 1962 A50, to thoroughly clean the inside.
Is there an easy way to get it out or have I got to dismantle the rear end of the bike to get it out?
Failing that, what's the easiest way to clean out the tank if I leave it in place?

Not sure for the earlier closed loop frames, but on the later open loop type you have to remove the rear mudguard unfortunately!!

Thats what I thought. Remove rear wheel and then remove mudguard to get tank out! Just wondered if there was an easier way.

Hi,
Do you know when the tank was last cleaned out?  If it was not too long then wash it out with some petrol.  Get a big bottle brush and scrub the inside and especially at the bottom where sludge will accumulate and get quite sticky.  Hot soapy water will also help.  When you can stick your finger in to the bottom by the filter and it come out clean you have done enough.

Dave.
