Hello,
The auto/advance unit is not working as it should, not springing back freely. Clearly someone has had it apart to 'service' it at some stage! It is fine when off the machine but goes stiff when back on the magneto. Alos the unit does not self extract as it should.
Does anyone know where these can be serviced?

The springs are quite light, and when the engine is at rest they have to overcome the weight of the armature, the friction in the bearings, the oil seal, the pickup and earthing brushes and the effect ofthe contact breaker cam on the moving contact.
When you kick it over you should see the unit returns to the retarded position.
