Hi all, new to this forum and Pre War BSA bikes. So on a learning curve that may take a long time!
I have a KB24 that I'm slowly trying to put together! This months issue is the shouldered rear stand bolts or lack of them!
The part number given is 65-4804. Does anyone happen to know what thread size they should be? 7/16th 26tpi ?
I can not find any available so was going to make up a sleeve and bolt arrangement to fit. Would try and measure the mounting hole dia in the frame but it's stored miles away at the minute, so was going to try and sort the bolts whilst waiting for a chance to go and collect it. Thanks, Garry
A long shot, are the bolts the same as an M20.
Hi, no they aren't the same, did have a look at them for a start. These thread into the frame and look to have a locknut on the back.
I had scribbled down when I had the frame in front of me and was having a guess! Shoulder dia 9/16, length of shoulder 7/16, because the hole in the stand was 9/16 and thickness of the stand 5/16, leaving 2/16 for a washer. Thickness of the frame lugs 1/4. I had a 3/8 UNF bolt with me and it just went through the hole, hole is threaded, looks a fine thread so I thought it may be 7/16 26tpi
I would think the 250's 350's from about 1937-39 must be the same.
Thanks for the reply, Garry
Hi, the parts Book for 1939 gives the nut which goes on the stand pivot bolt as part number EB363A and lists that as 3/8". Not sure about your threaded holes in the frame being larger. Maybe they are worn, or should be plain 3/8" clearance and the bolt has fretted in them to leave an impression of a thread?
Hi, thanks for the answer, I think you must be right, the threads and holes must have had some abuse! I'll get hold of a couple of 3/8" 26tpi nuts, bolts and a tap to clean up what's left. Then give it a go. With a bush and a half nut on the back it should be okay.
Next problem! anyone know where I can get hold of a brake pedal spindle 66-7035? I have searched the web and the only place I could see one was in Australia. Fits a few models so I thought they may have been easier to find but with no auto jumbles or shows, only the web to search, no luck! I had written down that the thread in the frame must be 9/16" 20tpi so may be something I have to make.
Thanks again for the help on the stand bolts, at least you chaps know your stuff!
