I am rebuilding my early A50 and going through the parts to put together a shopping list.
Is it wise to replace all the valve springs and clutch springs as a matter of course?
My valve springs are within 5% of the specified lengths apart from 1 outer which is about 10% out.
The clutch springs I probably will change as the existing ones are about 38mm long and new ones are 44mm long ( 4 spring early clutch)
What are the accepted tolerances for spring wear generally.
entirely up to you.
Ive just stripped the A50 and replaced springs, valves, guides and cotters, didnt bother checking valves, the price wasnt worth worrying about. not looked at the drive side yet as its external and getting the machining out of the way first. Same applied to all bearings and seals.
Hi,
Valve springs, if their length has reduced more than 1/16" or any signs of cracking replace them.
Check the plates first. Clutch springs, check the lengths are approx the same, when adjusting if the run out is greater than 1/64", the clutch slips and the coils are bound replace them.
Best wishes...
