Having just bought a 1965- A65 silencer, I tried fitting it today and, given the closeness of the kickstart as it passes the silencer, the fact that it touches the frame in order to do so, and the bracket location being rear of the fitting bolt feel that it might not be the correct silencer.
The front pipe of the silencer should be some three inches longer and the tail pipe shorter.....
What are your thoughts please?
Thanks,
Dave

Hi
It looks almost the right shape and the inlet out let pipes look right. It should go on the exhaust pipe a bit further so that the mounting is more in line with the footrest lug. It might be worth fitting the mounting plate and line it up with the footrest lug to see where it then sits. It may move it down and in a bit so clearing the frame and the kickstart a bit more. The exhaust pipe may also move a bit to get it lined up.
I would think that even original parts would not be a perfect fit so who knows with pattern ones.
The Clubman kickstart that you have fitted may be shaped to take account of the different design of the Clubman silencer which indeed does have a longer inlet pipe but is also offset. Do you have a standard one to try?
Dave.

Unfortunately, the more I moved the pipe towards the front (and lined up with the footrest mounting bolt), the more the silencer widened- meaning the kickstart had no chance of clearing it.

Unfortunately not Dave.
I had thought of fitting some kind of in-line adaptor to push it back two or three inches, but that would make the bracket 'off- set' situation even worse.
I'll contact them tomorrow and see what they might be able to suggest.
The down pipes on mine almost hugged the frame, sounds like they could be for another year. Good luck.
Thanks.... Gonna be interesting for sure....
Had a chat with William of britishmcparts.com who is keen to find a solution...
He says the Goldstar silencer, being narrower at the front, ought to fit, as has been done by others.....

I'm also wondering if my kickstart lever is cranked out enough.
Does anyone have any measurements for the 'Clubman' kickstart lever please?
Thanks,
Dave.
Looking at some pictures of A65s in the mags I would say no. The ones I see do have a crank on the kick start lever. I would investigate further before you condemn what you have.
Hi,
The silencer you have is pretty much standard and the kickstart lever is a Lightning Clubman. Is the problem that the Clubman kickstart is designed to be used with the Clubman silencer which is quite different to a standard one?
Dave.
I think the Clubman kickstart is more tucked in to clear the gear lever in the reversed position. I think you either need the Clubman silencer to go with the kickstart or the standard kickstart to go with your silencer.
Having said that, it is not unusual to find that pipes and silencers do not fit as well or as easily as they should.
Armours list a Clubman silencer;

Thanks guys, that all sounds right to me..... Gotta go for a clubman silencer then......
I'll let you know how it goes....
Regards,
Dave.
Well, 7 months later my latest situation is.... pretty much as it was 7 months ago. (The silencer has been returned to Britishmcparts (don't ask me about the pallaver I had with Hermes on that one) and William of britishmcparts has sent me two silencers that won't even go on the exhaust pipes and is not bothering to reply to most of my phone calls anymore....)
I'm at the point of writing off the £90.00 I paid, as I don't see any other course of action. (suggestions would be appreciated...)
Has anyone on the site ever dealt with WWW.britishmcparts.com and if so, what was your experience like?.....
Hi,
Feked list a Clubman's silencer. Never used them but some positive comments on this Forum.
Dave.
from the top of my head, Fekd was Sammy Miller's, Millers based in Southampton, Armour's based along the coast at Bournemouth, I know there have been a few problems with their systems in the past/ someone has posted a Midlands firm having the original patterns , but over years some parts may have been changed so who knows what you have is right or wrong.
I have bought two systems from Armours and neither fitted. The downpipes for my OIF A65 pointed upwards as they left the cylinder head.
I would recommend Feked. Gordon, the owner actually makes them on site.
Here is a photo of James Rushton's 1965 LC showing the kickstart in more detail.
And here is one of the side view.
Your silencer looks a lot longer than James's. I would suggest yours is not the correct one.
I've not heard of the supplier you bought it from but there seems to be a lot of these guys who are all selling the same pattern parts on the internet. Their knowledge of different models of each marque maybe limited.
Gordon at Feked is very knowledgeable. They supply a Clubman silencer (Feked p/no DS282) £89.95 +vat +delivery. Also, if you are concerned about the position of the bracket compared to the inlet for instance, they will measure it and send a photo with the dimension on it.
Thanks for all the help folks.
Feked seems the way to go (ironically it's also how I feel about the money I seem to be losing)
I'll just have to save up my pennies and get one from them once I have enough ....
Ed, that is one beautiful looking bike..... I think mine should end up looking reasonable- but it's not going to bear comparison to yours. Stunning....
I hadn't realised the colours of the side panel badges till I saw yours...... The ones I have are pretty much Black and silver.... and one appears to have been run over... by a number of vehicles possibly including a Centurion tank...) (too badly damaged to be properly repaired.... so I'll do my best and call the resultant shortcomings 'Patina')
Martin S.- Ed's bike is the one you should have more pictures of (Ref my '1965 A65 Lightning side stand length' post)
Thanks again for all your help and suggestions,
Dave.
Hi Dave,
Whoa! That's not my bike (although I wish it was), It belongs to member James Rushton and we featured it in the January 2016 edition.
Look it up in the members area.
I must confess I did take the photos, my first go at doing pics for an article.
Chris
Thanks for the correction Ed...
I'd happily take credit for it.... Simply beautiful.
But the side panel badges in the picture have really made me reconsider what I was going to do with my fairly 'manky' ones.....
So that's a bonus for me...... (I stripped all the paint off mine, again, and I cant say how much time I've spent on them already..... (Still, onwards and upwards eh?))
Incidentally, with regards the silencer issue, I managed to contact Britishmcparts on the phone today and he half convinced me that we might be able to sort something out real soon..... (I've heard it before but I can hang on another couple of weeks if I have to...... ('Gullible' is actually my middle name...)

Can you give me some guidance on finding James's bike pics please?
Feked from pipes are made in Poole. Most of the tube type silencers are made at feked. Their front pipes fit a lot better than Armours ( I should knowing i modified a lot of the other supplier pipes to get feked ones to fit properly) Thdor chroming is done in Birmingham to a high standard as well.
Feked front pipes are bent in Poole and chromed in Birmingham. The tube type silencers are made in house and chromed in Birmingham. Things like ranging silencers are bought in. There has been a lot of work to get the front pipes to fit closely.
