Hello,
Maybe a strange question but is it possible to instal a single seat seat on a 1957 B31?
regards
Tim
Are you talking about a saddle or basicly half a duel seat. The front pivot wouldn't be a problem with a saddle but mounting the springs would be. Also the frame members would be in the way. Single seats were used on Gold Stars in trials or scrambles so one of those should fit a B31 which has the same frame layout.
I dint know what its called exactly. I love my B31 (after a serial number investigation it turns out My B33 is in fact original a B31)
but I never quite liked the duo seat. I have seen this, don't know if its original?

My B31 (ignore the engine!) is a 1951 plunger and has the mounts for a single sprung riders seat. This still has the original.
The pillion is an after-market Wassell that I added.
Does your frame still have the lugs for the single seat supports - I'm assuming it's swinging arm...?
Cheers,
Bernie
Hi,
These look nice on the A10 frame, could be adapted for the B31?

You wouldn't need to adapt the seat it would fit straight on. There is very little difference between an A and B series frame.
My B31 has a swingarm. I never quite liked the duo seat.
The spitfire one qould be a way to go.
I looked on an online partslist. This list mensions a sprung sadle for the 1956 swingarm model.
BSA number 42-9032. Does somebody knows if you can buy these somewhere? Or has someone one for sale?
Hi,
Worth looking here:

Universal seat with a variety of springs to choose from.

hi , i would go for the large single saddle which i have on my plunger but i believe the police a10 s used a small saddle [uncomfortable ]. the fittings on a swingarm are the 2 threaded battery posts to bolt the flat spring coil [ you will need short springs] and the front seat pivot. for the front pivot you have to remove the locating bolt and knock out the centre shaft so its hollow and swop the locating bolt/screw for a grease nipple. look at fittings and parts for royal enfields and lambrettas. the pattern seats generally have holes drilled for varying widths between springs. so - so quality.
ok,thanks for the info. So I should look for a Royal enfield saddle?
the ones on e bay all originate from india. i think some dealers like kidderminster or burtons would have a seat your after. my one is a wassel supplied seat. its o.k. for the money.
