1968 a65 / 3 pipes from sump /feed /return /rocker feed / fitting filter in return line / do i need to plug rocker feed from sump and fit t piece after filter / to feed rockers
Hi Finn,
I left the rocker feed as it was and just put the filter in the main return pipe. Although a bit of unfiltered oil will go to the rockers it is still getting filtered over a few cycles.
Dave.
cheers dave / i read somewher/ that if you dont put t in /to much oil would go to rockers because of back pressure from filter
Hi,
I have run two A65s like this for many years and many thousands of miles and there does not seem to be a problem with too much oil to the rockers. There is plenty of drainage down by the pushrods as well as the drainage holes by the exhaust rockers. The earlier A65s and A10s/A7s etc. have the rocker feed on/at the tank so for them no change either.
If you want to fed the rockers with oil after the filter fit the early oil junction fitting to your engine and run the small size pipe to the rockers by teeing off after the filter.
Dave.
Thanks Dave, very helpfull
Hi,
In 1966 BSA identified inadequate lubrication to the camshaft on the A50/A65 models. They improved this by changing the rocker box feed from the return pipe union at the bottom of the crankcase. They recommended the conversion for all the early machines and listed the parts.
I wouldn't change back. Fitting the filter will slightly improve the oil flow to the rockers and squirt more oil to the camshaft as BSA intended.
See service sheet 139 for more information.
Best wishes...

Hi Bess and Co.
I have fitted the one that you designed on three bikes. changed the piping to the later triple outlet. All good and would happily recommend it.

Hi Mike,
Good to hear all went well with the design, the two home here are fine. I have put something together for a A10, not too happy with it yet so back to the drawing board :(.
Best wishes...

hi thanks to all who have posted on this subject fitting remote oil filter /i had all ready done the installation when i brought this topic up /just being careful i did it correctly/ / 3 port manifold /oil filter in return line/ t after filter to feed rockers with clean filtered oil/ all seems to be working / good return to tank / oil feeding rockers / still searching topic when i came across this /the earlier oil tanks that fed the rockers had some plumbing inside which also restricted flow creating some back pressure to help push oil through smaller t to rockers / is there a restriction in 1968 oil tanks to accomplish this
